Dr. Filbert is a longtime Washington State resident who grew up in Eastern Washington. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington in 1986 and received his doctor of dental surgery in 1990, also from the University of Washington. He then was accepted to the General Practice Residency at UW Medical Center, a hospital-based advanced education program for general dentists emphasizing surgery, children's dentistry, and dental care for medically compromised patients. 

He moved to Federal Way in 1991 and started his own practice.

He is active in two study clubs that meet every month and has completed hundreds of hours of advanced training in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, as well as orthodontics.
